TANGO CHARLIE, produced by Nitin Manmohan and Mani Shankar's next film
after the supernatural RUDRAKSH, is the first Indian film made on the
Border Security Force (BSF), who tackles the insurgents in various
states of India - including Bodos and the Naxalite movement. The film
is also the first one to feature a combing operation which was never
covered before in world cinema.
Besides Bobby Deol playing Sipahi Tarun Chauhan and Ajay Devgan playing
Hawaldar Mohammed Ali, Kelly Dorjee plays a Bodo militant leader and
Sudesh Berry a BSF jawan. Mani Shankar asserts that there are no
villains in the film. The film is about the lives of thousands of
unknown soldiers who fight in battles every day. The film takes the
action right down to the grass-root levelàliterally.
Besides directing the film, Shankar has written the dialogue and
screenplay, and done the special effects, which will enhance the
reality without detracting the quality.
