| Poet/writer/actor Carl Hancock Rux is a true renaissance man. His |
| artistic skills go well beyond anyone's expectations or ideas, and |
| continuously amaze critics and fans alike. The teaming up of Carl |
| and Ron Trent created this magical 12". Created in one single, |
| long session, "Lamentations (You, Son)" features Ron's deep, dark |
| instrumentation and production. Carl's voice and chants render |
| much emotion, sure to give you chills every time you hear it. The |
| "You, Son Mix" futures a sublime saxophone solo by Jay Rodriguez. |
| |
| Ron Trent's lake dip takes the story of Africans falling from |
| grace into slavery to produce beats that lock like chains, and |
| slightly snap like whips. Ample space among the various parts |
| (voices, piano, percussion) is the vastness of the ocean trail |
| from one continent to another. Rux's words fly in and around heads |
| throbbing from the wails of a displaced son. His mighty baritone |
| changes a pained memory recital into an epic of which those who |
| admit to knowing these stories are heroes. Because honor must be |
| given to all who experienced the terror of slavery. Helga Davis |
| moans freeing psalms in the last minutes. For this record you will |
| dance what Rux calls, "the emancipation song." |

| This surely is one of my favorite deephouse/broken beat records |
| that amazes me every time I hear it, over and over. I hope it can |
| bring the same magic to your ears. Enjoy! |
