            █║░  Jazz Funk Sessions" takes you on a     ░║█
            █║░  musical journey from the mid-1970s     ░║█
            █║░  through to the late 1980s, a time      ░║█
            █║░  when contemporary jazz was blending    ░║█
            █║░  with soul, funk and disco/boogie to    ░║█
            █║░  reach a new younger and wider          ░║█
            █║░  audience. Electric instrumentation     ░║█
            █║░  had arrived with the onset of Miles    ░║█
            █║░  Davis' late 60s recordings, pushing    ░║█
            █║░  jazz closer to the mainstream. The     ░║█
            █║░  "soul jazz" style of that decade had   ░║█
            █║░  shown musicians they could reach       ░║█
            █║░  beyond the sit-down clubs and concert  ░║█
            █║░  venues and play to the dancefloor and  ░║█
            █║░  DJs. Many of these musicians were to   ░║█
            █║░  become pivotal figure heads in the     ░║█
            █║░  jazz funk movement of the next two     ░║█
            █║░  decades.                               ░║█
            █║░                                         ░║█
            █║░  Jazz purists argued that this new      ░║█
            █║░  genre was a sell-out - musicians were  ░║█
            █║░  having to compromise their art in      ░║█
            █║░  return for record sales and thus       ░║█
            █║░  dollars! To some extent, this was      ░║█
            █║░  true. Many record labels did jump on   ░║█
            █║░  the band-waggon and forced their       ░║█
            █║░  artists to make some embarrassing      ░║█
            █║░  music, fuelled more by potential       ░║█
            █║░  sales than musical integrity. One can  ░║█
            █║░  find many a bargain basement album by  ░║█
            █║░  well known and renowned jazz           ░║█
            █║░  musicians consisting of awful cover    ░║█
            █║░  versions of pop music hits! On the     ░║█
            █║░  other hand, a massive amount of fine   ░║█
            █║░  and relevant music did come out in     ░║█
            █║░  this period which reached a far wider  ░║█
            █║░  audience than bebop or hard bop could  ░║█
            █║░  ever have done.                        ░║█
            █║░                                         ░║█
            █║░  Compiler Adrian Gibson has done an     ░║█
            █║░  excellent job of picking a varied mix  ░║█
            █║░  of music for this release. Some        ░║█
            █║░  classic hits, some lesser known        ░║█
            █║░  tracks, and some totally obscure       ░║█
            █║░  except to DJs and vinyl collectors.    ░║█
            █║░  With 20 years experience as a black    ░║█
            █║░  music DJ, and 12 years as programmer   ░║█
            █║░  for London's premier jazz funk venue,  ░║█
            █║░  Jazz Cafe, he knows the music inside   ░║█
            █║░  out. So, there's nothing more to do    ░║█
            █║░  except press play, sit back and enjoy  ░║█
