mom, the video broke' is one of the freshest takes on what can be
done with a dance record (that you can still actually dance to)
since aphex twin's 'windowlicker'. live drums, handclaps and
keyboard jams slide over a low frequency bass riff, blurring the
boundaries between live and electronic. 3 minutes and 13 seconds
later in comes the kick, turning this into a bleeping, burbling
mental as you like 4/4 acid workout. 'the e ticket' is just as big
a head fuck, like when you first heard carl craig's 'bug in the
bassbin'. electronic clicks, drum snaps, whiplash cracks and
rising, swelling jets of noise, melting into a beautiful spaced
out synth and piano outro. all this overlaid with the nagging,
repeat electro hook from the best horror soundtracks. strange, but
brilliant.
