the United States of kiss my ass'. The first bit is right but the
latter comment says more about the state of mind of the compilers
(The Thievery Corporation boys) than the actual nature of the music.
Confrontational sounds couldn't be further away from the dubbed
out, downtempo vibes that are in essence the very nature of Washington
DC's eighteenth street lounge label. For any of you that enjoyed the
Thievery Corporations debut long player- 'sounds from the Thievery
hi-fi'- this compilation of the best tunes from the label so far will
not fail to disappoint. The Thievery boys contribute 3 tracks, including
the exclusive 'Transcendence', which continues the dub meets hip-hop in
a hazy cloud of sensimilla vibe. Other highlights include Thunderball's
mellow junglist tunes, Lift Off's scratchedelica, abstract hip hop,
Exodus Quartets distinctly Far Eastern meets Western b-boy vibe, and
Kevin England's sublimely laid-back-and-loving-it downtempo numbers.
