Burnt Friedman & The Nu Dub Players heat up. Ever wondered what
weed-smoking rasta martians listen to? Not this. A record featuring
vocals by Patrice and Abi and shrewd strikes against redundancy.
20 musicians from Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Copenhagen, Detroit,
Cape Town, Santiago de Chile, Cologne and Berlin participated in
making Can't Cool, an exotic reggae hybrid with more than a blend
of soulful songs with the featured vocalists Abi, Patrice, Lovetta
Pippin and Theo Altenberg.
The London born and Cologne settled Nigerian Abi (also known as Don
Abi) donates his fantastic voice on 4 Nu Dub-songs. Together with
his brother Ade Amaechinna and Patrice he founded a project named
Bantu and runs his own label 96░ Recordings. Patrice is maybe the
internationally most famous and talented singer and songwriter from
the german reggae-scene. His solo albums Ancient Spirit and his
last release How Do You Call It, were both released on Yo Mama /
EMI. Lovetta Pippin of the Detroit based duo His Name Is Alive
(with Warn Defever) is featured on Someday My Blues Will Cover The
Earth. The original version of the tune has been released on the
legendary 4AD label. Burnt Friedman licensed the vocal take to
create a new Dub version.
The afro-beat inspired song Fuck Back features singer and
performing artist Theo Altenberg from Berlin.
The band will be touring, featuring Jaki Liebezeit (who just won
the echo-award for the lifetime work of the Unkraut-Rock band Can)
on drums, Daniel Schroeter on bass, Joseph Suchy on guitar and
