G.T. Moore is a true pioneer of the British reggae scene,
with a recording career that stretches from the early
1970's. His band the "Reggae Guitars" were the first white
group to seriously attempt an authentic reggae sound
recording two albums for Charisma Records (G.T. Moore and
The Reggae Guitars 1972 and Reggae Blue 1974) the
former album boasting the original reggae cut of Bob Dylans
"Knocking on Heaven's Door" an idea taken to chart
success by Eric Clapton some years later.
A compilation of live and studio material was released in
America , but the planned breaking of the band onto the
American audience never materialized and although the Reggae
Guitars were popular on the live circuit they finally
split up around 1980. G.T. and some of the band then formed
the "Rhythm Tramps", which also featured musicians
from Johnny Nash's band. The Rhythm Tramps were much in
demand for session work and worked with many artists
like Van Morrison and Paul Kossof.
By this time G.T. was resident in Amsterdam and found
himself immersed in the welter of "Roots" music being
directly
imported from Jamaica. A Dutch company called Black Star
Liner arranged for an album to be recorded with the
legendary
studio wizard Lee Perry, "The Return of Pipecock Johnson",
G.T. the "White Reggae Man" was at the core of the musicians
sent to Jamaica for the sessions. Black Star Liner also put
G.T. into Harry J's studio where he recorded the track
"Utopia"
which was released as a single in Britain and Europe.
Greatly inspired by his Jamaican experience G.T. then formed
"The Outsiders", a large scale touring band, complete with
horn section. The band gigged extensively around Britain and
Europe during the early 1980's and recorded a studio album
that was sadly never released.
After the split of "The Outsiders" in 1986, and somewhat
disillusioned with the Reggae scene G.T. was able to fall
back on
his myriad of musical talents. As a musician capable of an
amazing array of styles (from Irish folk to Hendrix!), an
experienced
sound engineer, and multi-instrumentalist, he has been kept
much in demand over the past few years as a session musician
and producer.
In 1990 a new seed was planted when G.T. met up with
producer (and long time admirer) Rej Forte and the Jah Works
label.
The first result of this collaboration being the re-release
of "Utopia" on the Jah works compilation "One Foundation".
The release of the (under- rated) instrumental album "The
Outsider Meets The Roots Dynamics" marked the serious return
of
G.T. to the Reggae scene and the first new fruits of his
liaison with the Jah Works setup..
G.T has now completed a brand new vocal album for Jah Works
Outernational Records, which features his highly acclaimed
ten inch single release "Turn Israel" along with new vocals
and dubs.
Both as singer/songwriter and as multi-instrumentalist "The
Outsider", he is producing some of his best work ever.
