I am sitting here in the ║ │ │║ middle of the night and this is my 12th review ║ │ │║ so far. This is a first for me. I didnÆt think I ║ │ │║ had it in me. I was just about to pack it in ║ │ │║ when I threw this disc in the player. The band ║ │ │║ is Emerald Rain and the disc is Age of ║ │ │║ Innocence. They hail from Toronto, Canada and ║ │ │║ this is their second release, their first on ║ │ │║ Frontiers Records. Emerald rain follow in the ║ │ │║ footsteps of their countrymen Harem Scarem and ║ │ │║ play melodic hard rock. The band was formed in ║ │ │║ February 1997 by Murray Daigle (lead vocals and ║ │ │║ guitar), Mike Dmitrovic (guitars, backing ║ │ │║ vocals) and Sean Gregory (bass guitar, backing ║ │ │║ vocals). The lineup is rounded out by newcomer ║ │ │║ Kyle Lazenka on the drumstool. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Emerald Rain play catchy hard rock with lots of ║ │ │║ harmony and melody. Age of Innocence contains 12 ║ │ │║ songs clocking in at over 50 minutes. "No ║ │ │║ Saviour" kicks off the CD with one of the ║ │ │║ heaviest tracks on the disc. "Never Surrender" ║ │ │║ is probably the rawest song on the disc but ║ │ │║ still contains the bands perfect vocal ║ │ │║ harmonies. "Sleeping in the Fire" reminds me ║ │ │║ heavily of Dokken with its Lynch inspired guitar ║ │ │║ riff. "Barely Holding On" features some nice ║ │ │║ guitar leads by lead guitarist Dimitrovic. If ║ │ │║ there is one thing this Cd is not missing is ║ │ │║ lots of guitar. These guys might play with lots ║ │ │║ of melody but they have some scorching guitar ║ │ │║ going on all over this disc. Other stand out ║ │ │║ tracks include "Age of Innocence", "The Method" ║ │ │║ and "Your Disguise" ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Hard Rock seems to be making a bit of a ║ │ │║ comeback. Bands like Ten, Norway and Fair ║ │ │║ Warning are making great records to go along ║ │ │║ with some good offerings from the more elderly ║ │ │║ bands of the genre such as Firehouse and ║ │ │║ Slaughter. Emerald Rain are ready to join all ║ │ │║ these bands in the vanguard of the hard rock ║ │ │║ comeback. The only problem that I see is that ║ │ │║ some of their songs sound a little similar.
