VLAD's musical history is one of strange
influences and even stranger productions. He first
started off in the midst of heavy metal and
immersed himself in long hair and leather jackets,
even producing an album with pal Scott Burns.
However it was electronics that was to bend his
mutated ear, with sounds from video games and
Manga animation making the real connection with
his sideways brain. He managed to get hold of some
80s kit which came in the form of synthesisers and
began his electronic musical journey. Once
acquired he proceeded to corrupt them, turning
their once innocent sounds into the murky
lawlessness of experimental electro adventures.
This album is the perfect example of a brain
bewitched by electrodes, a brain that sees life in
technology.
EMO-DROIDZ is tourettes addled electronics - an
exploration into the caves of the synthetic
underworld. A world inhabited by sound at odds
with the conventional. Driving with dribbles of
spastic sound jacking to jagged glimmers of
musical exploitation VLAD swerves on to the
electro highway swigging from a can of special
brew with a stash of Benzedrine in the glove
compartment. His drugged synth spins out it in the
passenger seat whilst his paranoid drum machine is
trussed up and kidnapped in the boot. VLAD steers
this hallucinogenic juggernaut through the
psychotic and the sublime finding some sort of
lucid redemption just in time to save himself and
his machines from a seven car pile up. What could
so easily have been a sticky mess is disjointed
twists and nuances pulls back into the realm of
sublime electronics.
VLAD has a split personality that manifests itself
in the sheer number of soft and sharp tones that
fire off at any one time. Aural shrapnel skits
through the air as the listener is caught head on.
But instead of inflicting pain VLAD's shards of
sound are soaked up by the ear and given
continuity by the grey matter in between. For it
is a journey that we are on and one with sharp
corners and curved straight lines, one were the
musical landscape is surreal and paranoid as well
as definite and relaxing. Music like this can only
come from our times as imagination must correlate
with continuity other wise it is dismissed as
irrelevant. Inventively tough electronica for the
alternative generation.
