Map/Terrain have under 2004 invited some musicians, artists, designers
and journalists to work with sound in public places in Malmoe (Sweden).
During the year concerts, installations, exhibitions and
radio-broadcasts have taken place, with the ambition to change the
common view of the use of public places. Map/Terrain is the rawmaterial
for how we percieve the city. The exactness of the map gives a precise
overview. The terrain meets every individual and becomes the physical,
social and electronic reality in which we are situated. To put it
simply, the map is a prolongation of the terrain, an abstraction
or a copy with much less information. At the same time, the map is a
guide for how to make sense of the terrain, a thoughtstructure put above
the terrain to make it understandable. Because of that the map is as
important as the terrain when new explanations of the city are given and
when new perspectives are created.
Note: The tracks on this CD have quite low bitrate, even though its encoded
using the --alt-preset standard. The reason for this, I suspect, is that
the concert was recorded underwater, as the title suggests.
