You can't fail but like this track a lot. You can try, you cynical
lot, but you will fail. So, all hail to the debut EP from RON
BASEJAM, aka Jim Baron. Jim spends most mornings crafting tracks for
CRAZY PENIS together with Chris Todd. As we would all expect from
those Penis boys, Sir Ron has delivered the goods in their inimitable
chunky deep disco fashion. "For the People, By the People" is a
musical meeting somewhere in between Moodymann, Prince, and Fela
Kuti. It's like they built Studio 54 in the Amazon and let Jeff Mills
play to sinewy tribesmen doing cartwheels. The SCHMOOV! remix ups the
tempo and plonks in some acidic to-ing and fro-ing for the house
heads, slushing through warm chords and tantalizing bleeps, out of
the jungle and back into town. We Got Magic is another instantly
delicious track, which rolls and builds up into a timeless disco
beast. Nuff said. This has got an amazing reaction off CD-R, with big
support from Chris Duckenfield, Bill Brewster, and hordes of dodgy
posers in small town bars. Get your big belts on and join them.
