| Ahhh, the lovely 7-inch vinyl. Still one of the most effective (and |
| cheap) ways of getting familiar with a bandà or in some cases two. While |
| in some ways a split is a little less effective (you donÆt get both side |
| devoted to one band), it will still you some ground to stand on when it |
| comes to making a call about a band. |

| On the first side (well, I guess it all depends on what side you put on |
| first, but whatever) we have Poison Control Center. A band that has |
| shrunk a considerable amount over the last year (it used to be anywhere |
| from 8 to 12 people) now seems more comfortable with the five they have |
| now. The band whisks through four tracks on their side, but it play like |
| one song with four æmovementsÆ. PCC is heavily influenced by both the |
| rock acts and the psych acts of the 60Æs. That lends itself to the band |
| seemingly coming in and out of dream states. Songs will have a heavy |
| ætrippyÆ vibe before anything cohesive pops out of the mix. Overall, |
| itÆs very enjoyable to listen to. IÆve known this band for a while now, |
| and these four songs are their strongest yet. I hope they continue down |
| the road they are on. |

| The flip side is Lake Holiday. The band is actually just Bradley Davis, |
| of defunct Oval-teen. But fans of the band shouldnÆt be looking for an |
| Oval-teen Jr. Bradley comes off with a deep somber tone. Two tracks that |
| differ in tempo, but carry a different tone then the light pop of his |
| past band. The songs are solid, hitting with hooks and melodies that |
| remind me of indie pop gone by. A nice departure from the brash |
| dissonant tones of today. |

| All in all, this 7-inch plays like a trip down memory lane. If you get a |
| chance to see either of these acts, this would be a cheap introduction. |
| And if you see PCC play, tell Don to lay off the sauce. |
