The Voodoo Organist is a one-man gothic punk blues explosion. The alter ego of Los Angeles
musician Scott Wexton, he hit the highways over two years ago on a mission to spread his
gospel all over the U.S. and hasn't stopped since. An artist whose methods are as ruthless
as the music he makes, Wexton takes the DIY philosophy to the highest degree: he not only
writes, arranges, performs and records his material, he also books his own tours
(160+ gigs a year), hustles his own press (50+ articles in newspapers and magazines so far)
and releases his recordings on his own label imprint. He set up Witch Doctor Records to release
his first album, "Exotic Demonic Blues." The Las Vegas Mercury gave it 4 out of 5 stars,
calling it 2002's premier bizzaro exotica record. The following year Wexton secured a
distribution deal with Dead Teenager Records, through which he released his second CD,
"The Return of the Voodoo Organist." Rue Morgue Magazine gave it 4 out of 5 stars, and MK Magazine
said he could very well be Tim Burton's dream lounge lizard.
Wexton's third CD, "Holy Ghost Town," is being released February 15, 2005 on his newly
renamed label, Voodoo Man Music, and is again being distributed by Dead Teenager Records.
It's his most potent album to date, with 13 tracks that samba and slither through a decadent
palette of musical styles. Using a whiskey-soaked growl, a vintage organ with bass pedals,
a theremin and various rhythm devices, Wexton tells tales of sin and temptation, drugs
and debauchery, murderous stalkers and lonesome highways; and through it all you will want
to dance like the Devil.
Also scheduled for a 2005 release is the "Spring Heel Jack e.p." being released April 10 on
Voodoo Man Music and Unfortunate Miracle Records. Four songs on 7 inch vinyl that will steer
your conga line straight to Hell.
