Profile
DJ Hype's career began in 1983 when the Heatwave sound-system began to hit
the Hackney reggae scene. Experimenting not only with that sound, but also
hip hop, rare-groove and early house, Hype's first studio session was with
other members of his sound-system who messed with rap under the name Private
Party, though no releases were ever made by this outfit.
Hype's radio debut came in 1989 when he was offered a slot on Fantasy FM after
winning the DMC Mixing Championships. Taking up the post of A&R man at Kickin'
Records in 1990, Hype co-produced the groundbreaking "The Exorcist" and
"The Bee" as The Scientist. He set up the Ganja label in 1994 before moving
onto Kiss 100.
Since then Hype has become one of the biggest jungle DJs in the scene, regularly
topping fans' polls. In 2002 heÆs already mixed four compilations with
Jungle Massive Vols 1&2 showcasing old school classics, 'Old School In The Mix'
scratching through the Ganja/True Playaz back catalogue and 'Fabric Live'
representing a HypeÆs set in 2002. He also makes slower breakbeat like
the massive 'Pussy Remix'.
