▐█ The fourth release by Uzeda is simply called 4. Maybe this is █▌
▐█ also because there are only 4 songs on this EP. Still I had █▌
▐█ never heard of this band. Fortunately this has changed now, █▌
▐█ beause Uzeda makes some very exciting music with the typical █▌
▐█ bass-drums-guitar-vocals setup. The four-piece band comes from █▌
▐█ Sicily; and they are the first European band that got signed by █▌
▐█ Touch & Go. England's music guru John Peel already discovered █▌
▐█ this band back in 1994. █▌
▐█ █▌
▐█ Uzeda appears to be the name of one of the gateways leading into █▌
▐█ their city of birth Catania, on the slopes of the vulcan Etna. █▌
▐█ Perhaps this explains their explosive, raw sound, which most of █▌
▐█ all reminds me of Rapeman and Shellac. It doesn't have to █▌
▐█ surprise us then, that Steve Albini recorded this album. █▌
▐█ █▌
▐█ Very typical for Uzeda's sound, is the voice of Giovanna █▌
▐█ Cacciola (who fortunately doesn't have an Italian accent). She █▌
▐█ screams the texts in a desperate, direct in your face kind of █▌
▐█ way. Women such as Courtney Love or Kat Bjelland can take her as █▌
▐█ a example! █▌
▐█ █▌
▐█ The basis of the music is provided by a repetitive bass motif █▌
▐█ and a tight drum beat, flavoured with some stinging guitar █▌
▐█ parts. I have to admit that Uzeda immediately blew me off my █▌
▐█ socks! █▌
