| |
| Comprised of members of Transit and Defeater, Cold Collective are |
| aiming for the perfect Summer record. Bachelorette Party, their |
| debut record sees the band taking sonic cues from Jimmy Eat World, |
| Lower Than Atlantis, and Twin Atlantic with the aim of crafting |
| simple yet effective sunny jams. In many ways, the Boston-based |
| group succeeds, as this is a short collection of fun tunes meant |
| to be played in a car with the windows down. ôAway From Youö and |
| ôWaiting On Meö are absolute gems, with driving (yet calculated) |
| rhythms, big riffs, and solid hooks. In many ways, Cold |
| CollectiveÆs sound feels rather British, in that these songs were |
| clearly written in a basement yet meant to be played in a stadium. |

| The problem with this debut is that itÆs a debut. Hence, itÆs |
| really uneven. The best songs (note those above) are really |
| fantastic and memorable, whereas other tunes like ôTredö and |
| ôPreyö feel underdeveloped with hooks that miss the mark. |
| Thankfully, nothing on this fun record is actually bad, and thatÆs |
| a testament to the talent the band have to craft catchy little |
| ditties, but like many alt/rock albums, the highs really shine, |
| while the lows are unfortunately obvious because of that. |
| |
| Overall, Cold Collective feel like the perfect summer band, even |
| if their debut is a tad underwhelming in total. In reality, much |
| like many summer activities, Bachelorette Party is at least |
| enjoyable enough while itÆs going to forgive the lack of |
| memorability after the fact. |
