the pioneering west london broken beat collective are given a
chance to show us their influences here, with three tracks taken
from a forthcoming full length compilation. side a brings us the
leroy burgess produced "sweet thing" by convertion from 1980. this
is an absolute dancefloor soul bomb with a touch of early 80s rap
and all those burgess touches (strong piano lines, vocal
interplay, big chorus etc) you love. on the flip is roy ayers
"chicago" (as sampled by henrik schwarz!), a moody, atmospheric
cut from his 1983 album "lots of love" on un melodic, and carole
sylvan's 80s salsoul electro-boogie rework of lyn collins' classic
james brown funk anthem.
