Release Notes:
A real mod jazz classic from the London scene of the 60s -- and an album of
swinging jazz interpretations of Lennon & McCartney tunes! The album's the
brainchild of pianist Mike McNaught -- a player with a heavily rhythmic approach
on the lower end of the spectrum -- and an arranger with a great ear for a
modal, leaping groove! Mike's really transformed the numbers here -- taking them
far past their roots as vocal hits, and into a realm that lets his crack little
combo really go wild on them -- giving the tracks a run for their money in a way
that none of the Fab Four could ever hope to match! The rest of the group
features bass, drums, and vibes -- and it's the mix of vibes and piano that
bring an especially great quality to the record -- really pushing the modal
aspect of the arrangements, in a way that lets the numbers dance around with a
lyrical life of their own! Titles include the Gilles Peterson jazz dance classic
"Things We Said Today" -- plus "Ticket To Ride", "Hard Day's Night", "Paperback
Writer", "I Feel Fine", "Rain", "Yes It Is", and "From Me To You".
