Three years down the line since the release of their last album,
"Confusion", the guys are back for more. Whereas "Confusion" featured
divine artists of distinction laying their hands on Fauna Flash
tracks, it┤s all upside down this time: Fauna Flash don┤t let remixe,
they opt for DIY and remix divine artists of distinction!
"Worx - The Remixes" offers a bunch of delicate Fauna Flash remixes
of the past few years, chosen out of their total of over 30 remixes,
compiled and remixed by the boys themselves. With previously
unreleased tracks as well as two brandnew remixes, Rodney Hunter
"Take A Rideö and Megablast "Jubitaö!
With their debut "Aquarius" they achieved and established a
reputation as essential part of the royal European drum┤n bass
household during the last half of the 90s, German kings of D┤nB!
"Probably the best drum&bass album from Germany so far" sighed Kruder
& Dorfmeister and British NME (NewMusicalExress) rhapsodized "Fauna
Flash have solved one of the great puzzles of the late-20th Century:
How to take the excitement and energy of drum & bass on record and
translate it to a 'live' setting. And as a result, they're going to
be lauded and adored wherever they go. Fact!"
On the follow-up of 2001, "Fusion", Prommer and Appel extended their
musical focus on downtempo / dance soul in all its colours and
variations. Through combining elements of house, dub, jazz, latin,
brazil, hiphop and soul, they created a new musical tight as tight
can be unit, an identity stamped by urban club music.
Though there weren┤t any FF releases since 2002, the two Munich-based
producers Christian Prommer and Roland Appel have never been
off-screen but in fact bizzy as ever with a zillion remixes and side
projects: in 2003 they released the highly-praised "Baby3" 12" of
Voom:Voom, their project along with G-Stone Peter Kruder as well as
the eagerly-awaited Trⁿby Trio debut "Elevator Music" and in November
2004 the "Retreated" Trⁿby Trio remixes double cd. Talking about the
art of refining: Their remixes are pretty much sought after, demands
en masse and both of them are kinky/dinky clubfiller DJs, regularly
booked for the most notorious clubs around the world. They also
enchant festival crowds, be it Swiss Montreux Jazz Festival or the
Roskilde in Denmark.
01. Roberto Di Gioia's Marsmobil "Flowersö Fauna Flash Remix
Roberto Di Gioia already teamed up with (Jazz) artists as important
as Gary Peacock, Dave Holland, yep even Charlie Watts of the mighty
Rolling Stones and is nowadays a regular member of the
Till-Br÷nner-Band. In the past few years he┤s worked on countless
productions such as the "Neon Golden" album of The Notwist or "Reset
the Preset" of Console. Towards the end of the 90s he founded the
"Marsmobil": Nu-Jazz, minimal-electronic, lounge pop and
Burt-Bacharach-like orchestration.
02. Fon-Kin "Montininjaö Fauna Flash Remix
Fon-Kin are made of three DJs hailing from Southern Germany, Robert
Vogt, Harald Zankl and Stefan Baumgartner to be more precise. On
M.O.V.E. Productions they produce hiphop projects like Black
Knowledge, PHG┤s or Mad Fam. Not only did Fauna Flash turn Monty
Alexander`s "Monticello" into an abstract triphop remix, moreover
they made it a "Montininja". Noteably: This remix can be regarded as
stepping-stone of their musical career. Dating back to `95, it was
there their first remix ever!!!
03. Abdullah Ibrahim " Sweet Sambaö Christian Prommer Remix
Abdullah Ibrahim is clearly among the most gifted and important
Southern-African musicians, combining traditional African music with
contemporary/classic American jazz. He┤s playing the piano,
composing, arranging, leading a band and also teaches. Like noone
before he┤s managed to give multicultural South-African music its
very own distinctive note. Beware, the Prommer remix is a real
workout-shuffle!
04. Rivera Rotation "Dedicadoö Fauna Flash Remix
Producer Pete Rivera of studio collective Rivera Rotation has been
active spinning soul, deep house, latin and jazz for like two
decades. The operator of Hamburg┤s lovely Lounge Club (yes, it is in
the redlight district) gained a name through his "Music For Modern
Living" compilations on Lounge Records. The Fauna Flash dedication is
all jazzy, techy, electronic house.
05. The Underwolves " Shakenö Fauna Flash Timbales Remix
Let there be roots-minded percussion style, tribal house with spacy
vocals and a mighty bastard of a beat construct. Voila, the Timbales
Remix of "Shaken". That┤s what British Ned Kelly and "six foot three"
Professor Stretch aka The Underwolves go for. By the way, the vocals
on "Shaken" are provided by Jeb Loy Nichols himself, one of the
multitudinous guests off the "Under Your Sky" album (released 2001 on
JCR).
06. Grupo Batuque "Ole Olaö Fauna Flash Remix
"Ole Ola" by Dom Um Romao somehow sounds like a football tune.
Wouldn┤t there be this aggressive bassline of the Fauna Flash remix.
Grupo Batuque - the godfathers of African brazil. A batucada / samba
collective on Far Out Recordings, with Wilson des Neves (president of
the Escola de Samba Imperio Serrano), Mamao (drummer with Azymuth),
Dom Chacal , Zezinho, Robertinho Silva, Aleuda, Aparacedinh and Leo
Leobonz (percussionist with Mongo Santamaria and the Fania All
Stars).
07. Hajime Yoshizawa "Endless Bowö Fauna Flash Remix
The pianist with Sleep Walker (Especial Records / Extra Freedom) is
sort of a Japanese prodigy, started off playing piano at the tender
age of 2 and has been in the Japanese charts with his electronic
soulful jazz. The formative platform for his keyboard playing and
production talents was Cosmic Village, the band he┤s been in with
Shuya Okino of Kyoto Jazz Massive and others. The "Endless Bow" remix
satisfies with improvised jazz sounds and superb off-beats, positive
vibes all over.
08. Minimal Compact "Shouts and Kissesö Fauna Flash Remix
In the 80s audience and press passionately fell for Minimal Compact┤s
heavily Middle-Eastern coloured brand of new wave funk, based on
driving rhythms and dominated by Samy Birnbach┤s (DJ Morpheus) deep,
prophetic voice. They played a crucial role in the European rock
scene. Fifteen years later their stuff was tuned by big Djs resulting
in the "Returning Wheel" remix album von Crammed Discs. And that┤s
where this "Shouts and Kisses" remix was licensed from.
09. Joseph Malik " Diabloö Fauna Flash Remix
It takes two to tango! Fauna Flash put "Diablo" (The Road To Seville)
through the meat grinder, a 4/4 deep tech electronic sparkler with
acid dashes for the dancefloor. The original version is a dark
Spanish tango breakbeat, dedicated to the journey of Compost singer /
songwriter Joseph Malik┤s favourite football team, Glasgow Celtic, as
the progressed through Europe to the UEFA cup final in Seville.
10. Rodney Hunter "Take A Rideö Fauna Flash Remix
Rodney Hunter, co-founder of Uptight Records, started off playing
bass with hiphop band The Moreaus. Who can be pinned down as hotbed
of today┤s music scene, for his bandmates were no one else than Peter
Kruder, master MC Sugar B and hiphop god DJ DSL. On his
curiously-awaited debut "The Hunter Files" on G-Stone / Vienna he┤s
redefined the funk, groove, soul and relaxation mode, that emboss his
mutation from music boy to music man.
11. Megablast "Jubitaö Fauna Flash Remix
Soft broken bea(s)ts, warm soul vocals, digital latin rhythm, broken
beat bossanova and a little bit offbeat-southern soul new phily soul
movement style. Shake and stir and boom, Megablast - the current
project of Austrian Sascha Weisz / Luvlite Recordings. While his
`Showgirlz` and `Feel Alive` 12"s caused a fair commotion, his
eagerly awaited debut album of 2003 was poised to do the real damage:
Drawing on dub, groove, breaks, soul, jazz, afro and funk!
12. Hidden Agenda " Low Jazz Fidgetö Fauna Flash Remix
Jason and Mark Goodings have been Hidden Agenda ever since the wacko
mid-90s, releasing rare groove-dnb-electro-downbeat gems on
Metalheadz, Reinforced and Creative Source. They┤re never tired
coming up with new flavours and like to fry broken beats for the
Swiss record miss Straight Ahead where the refreshing äWhatever
Happened Toô album was released. For so many producers and Djs Hidden
Agenda have been a source of great inspiration, always on the cutting
edge.
13. Klaus Doldingers Passport "Ju-Ju-Man" Fauna Flash Remix
Klaus Doldinger is one of the most famous German jazz musicians,
composer of themes such like "The Boat" (Wolfgang Petersen) and
"Tatort" (notorious German "whodunnit" series. His slightly poppy
poppig fusion-jazzrock formation Passport has been active in varying
set-ups and often is labelled the European version of legendary
Weather Report or McLaughlin`s Mahavishnu band.
