Sylvia Vrethammar is an international acclaimed artist, whose
repertoire ranges from swinging jazz over South-American rhythms all
the way to the modern pop song. In her latest work from 2017,
Vrethammar obviously concentrates on what her real passions are. Her
album with the original title "The Girl From Uddevalla" is a
striking melange of mainly Brazilian rhythms and Jazz with a few,
fresh influences from pop music. The album's title has it all: it's
a hint to the all time favorite 'the girl from Ipanema' by A.C.
Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, made internationally famous by Astrud
Gilberto. Of course the album includes also the girl from
Uddevalla's version of this Brazilian classic tune.
The record is fantastically produced and features an incredible
talented group of musicians. Ms. Vrethammar shows wonderfully off
her artistry with old and new songs, a few of them especially
composed for this album. The English lyrics for the songs have been
written by Sylvia herself and luckily enough, and as it needs to be
for a Brazilian album, we get to hear her lovely voice also in
Portuguese. The album album the coup de coeur for this year and
recommended it to everyone who loves such styles as vocal, bossa
nova, jazz, latin etc. - the album has it all.
