---- + Release Note + -------------------------------------
Nebraska's Bright Eyes are graduates from the Midwestern school
of Brit-pop. With Fevers and Mirrors being their third
full-length release, a strong adaptation of Radiohead, Blur, and
Suede is conveniently wrapped up in a neat lo-fi package. But
without completely ripping anyone off, Bright Eyes feature their
own cadence of loose indie and shaky, emotional vocals. The
results amount to a catchy collection of elaborate pop that's
been perfectly captured on a nickel budget.
Fevers and Mirrors is their best album to date. Not only is it
markedly more polished in every way than the previous two
records, it features some of the most personal and poignant
music we have ever heard from Oberst. Most of the songs are
extremely haunting and brilliantly composed. It's safe to say
that Oberst created something truly original, a style that is
unprecedented. The fact that this album mixes different tones
and textures from the super punk rock feel of A Calendar Hung
Itself to the waltzy classical strumming of Sunrise,Sunset,
proves that Bright Eyes' isn't just a cookie cutter emo outfit,
but should be respected both lyrically and musically. It's a
near perfect album and one that has fully introduced us the
brilliant songwriting born from the mind of Conor Oberst.
