Suicideyear and LuckyMe make perfect sense as a team, and the Baton Rouge sadboyÆs
debut EP for the label is a predictably heady broth. Taking cues from Aphex Twin, DJ
Screw, Clams Casino and everyone in-between, the six tracks here evoke a unique
ambience that can only be described as the feeling of watching smoke curl in the air.
As one might expect from the title, the emotional makeup of Hate Songs is murky and
brooding. While the crisp drum tracking of cuts like æSummer HateÆ and æLagniappe
(Spring Hate)Æ brings to mind Atlanta titans like Zaytoven, the dense clouds of sound
that float atop them are sombre things.
