This is one of those albums that has to be heard to be believed. Without
wanting to piss a thesaurus up the wall, 'Eat My Heart Out' is akin to a
kids theme-park ride getting hijacked and rewired as an emotionally
bare, 8-Bit Lloyd-Webber musical that will happily chuck in some
rock/acoustic/operatic influences whenever the fancy dictates it.
Seemingly structured (and I use the word lightly) around Blechdom's bare
emotional state (made implicit through her naked, disturbing in a
hilarious sorta way cover shots), 'Eat My Heart Out' starts off with a
wired set of hyper harpsichords that soon opens out into a full-on
operatic number that outdoes even Queen for pomp. Similarly, 'What You
Wanna Believe' is like a seriously f*cked kid's TV show being hosted by
Fantasmos, whilst Blechdom sticks her pop-coated vocals upfront in the
mix. Elsewhere, 'Love You From the Heart' is a pop-rock clash duet (with
Mocky) that Peaches could do for copywrite infringement, 'Runnaway Or
Stay' is fit to burst with berzerker strings whilst 'Day to Day' is a
hillbilly acoustic western torch song. Whether you can stomach all this
cathartic pissing about is upto you, but if it's sonic ADD you're after;
Blechdom's your girl.
