Michigan, real name Anthony Fairclough, from the hit dancehall duo Papa
Michigan and General Smiley, stormed up the reggae charts in the eighties
with hits like "Rub A Dub Style", "Nice Up The Dance" and "Thank You Jah".
These recordings were made of Jamaica's legendary Studio One label. Michigan
and Smiley were the original Deejay combination act, inspiring other similar
duo's. Later they hit again with "One Love Jamdown" for Tuff Gong/Island
records. Their dynamism reflected the bridge from early dancehall to today's
Ragga phenomenon. After several years studying and also touring the USA,
Michigan returned to the studios, emerging with an album of wit and social
comment to remind current Deejays of the real origins of Ragga.
