askew recordings follow up their debut release (mr j - calling
out b/w maddslinky - spilt milk), with the future boogie funk
nugget "somethin' extra" by maddslinky and jenna g.
producer dave jones (aka zed bias/maddslinky/phuturistix) is busy
finishing off the phuturistix album with production partner sefton
mottley, soon to be released on their record label phuturelounge.
alongside this project dave and sefton are producing a solo album
for michelle amador (an american singer dave met whilst teaching
at the red bull music academy in rome) and manchester based
hip-hop crew raw-t amongst others.
on "somethin' extra" dave teams up with the amazing vocal talents
of jenna g. jenna is a singer with the phuturistix collective and
was the vocalist for drum and bass act uncut, who had a hit single
with "midnight". additionally jenna is a radio dj for bbc 1xtra,
catch her show with co-presenter twin b on saturdays 12 noon -
2pm. together dave and jenna have produced the sassy soul-funk
bomb "somethin' extra", which in its demo form has been receiving
support at the co-op club and from djs such as bugz in the attic,
mr scruff and kyoto jazz massive. alongside radio support on bbc
1xtra by j da flex (who gave the track 3 rewinds when he first
played it), benji b (bbc 1xtra), patrick forge (kiss fm) and kev
beadle (solar radio). this accessible soulful production is set to
be more than just an underground hit.

askew recordings is a record label that has emerged from the askew
club night, which now resides at club audio in brighton. the
nightÆs main musical focus is broken beat and future jazz and
soul, and it has been running in for over 3 years. co run by
resident djs barry dust, joe le force and gareth stephens the
night has had guest slots by some of the leading djs and producers
in the scene such as zed bias, bugz in the attic, domu,
phuturistix, blackbeard and others.
