Background: Boy Robot is the baby of two people who met in the software
industry. Hans Moller and Michael Zorn started their project some years
back, when the two of them were working at Berlin's Ableton, coding and
selling one of the most important tools for musicians: Live. Both have a
musical history of their own. Hans, who was born and raised in Sweden,
recorded two albums as Boulderdash. Michael has released two albums and
several 12"s for the Berlin-based imprint Lux Nigra, not to forget his
7" for City Centre Offices. "Rotten Cocktails" is their second album
after 2003's smasher "Glamorizing Corporate Lifestyle".
Rotten Cocktails: It is all about power, about the punch of a hefty
bassdrum, about energy everybody had thought to be impossible in what we
call electronica. "Rotten Cocktails" collects tunes written and produced
with one very specific goal in mind: keep rocking. Although it is
electronica, Boy Robot aim at the dancefloor. Be it "Super Scorer"
(which will be released as a 12" later in the year with bonus tracks and
remixes) - a dreamy disco-stomper, or "We Accept All Our Parents' Credit
Cards", which will floor anybody who thought French filterhouse had any
kind of impact on anything. 2005 is the year of the robots. The way Boy
Robot merge their unique approach towards melody and sound with
sometimes straight, sometimes dreamy beats converts every dancefloor
into a mosh-pit of the freshest electronica you have ever heard. And
then "Live in Vanilla" will kill you with its sheer beauty and bliss.
