Rachael speaks on The HWF ...
In addition to running Zhark-London, my time is dedicated to my all-female
(all electronic) sub-label called, The Homewrecker Foundation.
Started in 1998 as a response to the lack of women producing their own
electronic music, the HWF is a base for women and girls to come together,
share their knowledge of technology (and life), and release or achive
their music and multi-media work. We feature a broad range of styles
including breakcore, electro, noise, experimental electronics, and
fucked-up pop yet each release shares a strength in being a quality product.
The most special thing about The Homewrecker Foundation, is that it is
an all female funded, produced, designed and conceptualized project
- a difference to the new trend in males releasing and organizing
all-female projects.
As an experiment in the relation of modern feminism and technological
progress- between women and their take on interfacing with machines -
the HWF has started to effect ourselves and others, yet has a long ways to
go before coming to any logical conclusion of why the techno/jungle/hip-hop/
noise scenes have been and still are deprived of equality in terms of
who lays down those tracks. The HWF has as motto which most perfectly
sums up our stance and attitude towards stirring up the too firmly rooted
hold of males dominating this (still fairly new) type of production and
composition... Female trouble. Evening the score. Hysteria. Resistance.
Well :)
