There are few people who will get the opportunity to work with the most
dynamic remixers and producers of this decade. Collectively Louie Vega
and Kenny Gonzalez (Masters At Work) form a formidable partnership
reminiscent of the greatest producers of yesteryear. Quincy did it with
Chaka Khan, James Ingram, Al Jarreau and The Brothers Johnson, while
Gamble and Huff did it with Archie Bell and the Drells, Harold Melvin
and the Bluenotes, Teddy Pendergrass and MFSB.
MAW have knocked out stuff for George Benson, Tito Puente, the Nuyorican
Ensemble and newer artists such as Madonna, Michael Jackson and Lisa
Stansfield. So what is the connection ? They possess the one
characteristic that separates the men from the boys.
Versatility!
There are currently completed projects with Luther Vandross, Janet
Jackson and a whole host of original material for their own imprint
MAW Records. Their ethos, it seems, is to further develop themselves
as a production force while exposing the fresh talent of other producers
and artists.
THE BBE Situation
Having made contact with Kenny and Louie prior to the release of the
Nuyorican Soul project (MAW were in London hanging out at our Sunday
night affair "Bubbling Over" at Bar Rumba) we relished the idea of
being associated with them but had either the resources nor ideas for
this dream to be realised.
Eleven albums later we had our chance. AS Louie is more partial to DJing
these days he seemed to be the natural choice to mix the Mad Styles And
Crazy Visions CD. We discussed the idea in Louie's hotel room whilst he
was in London to DJ at Garage City's 7th anniversary. Two weeks later
everything was confirmed.
