▓████▓▌ National Monument was formed in November 2002 from ▓▌
▓████▓▌ members of former Winnipeg bands: Spiral ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Spectacular, Room237, Locust Bean Gum and one ▓▌
▓████▓▌ existing band, Ham. The frigid climate of Winnipeg ▓▌
▓████▓▌ provided the incentive for the band to focus on ▓▌
▓████▓▌ staying indoors writing and honing a particular ▓▌
▓████▓▌ sound unique to themselves. The members, Jason ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Hovland - guitar/vocals, Alex Janusz - ▓▌
▓████▓▌ guitar/vocals, Jim D. - Bass, Kelly Castle - drums, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ had all known each other as friends, who played in ▓▌
▓████▓▌ fellow bands and it took a rare instance that all ▓▌
▓████▓▌ four players were able to free themselves of other ▓▌
▓████▓▌ commitments to collectively focus on the project. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Since their early days of honing a particular ▓▌
▓████▓▌ sound, taking six months of writing, re writing, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ polishing and scrapping before a live performance, ▓▌
▓████▓▌ the band has continually progressed closer and ▓▌
▓████▓▌ closer to an elusive fixed point on the horizon. ▓▌
▓████▓▌ It╖s a goal, which will never be reached but will ▓▌
▓████▓▌ continually progress. The four players have their ▓▌
▓████▓▌ own styles, but together a fluid conversation is ▓▌
▓████▓▌ born. Comparisons to the band have been wide ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ranging, from Jesus and Mary Chain, Television, My ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Bloody Valentine, The Stooges, Polvo and Sonic ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Youth. The bands live shows have been met with ▓▌
▓████▓▌ glowing reviews, and praised as an astounding ▓▌
▓████▓▌ missing link in the already fertile Winnipeg music ▓▌
▓████▓▌ scene. A tour to Alberta, and Saskatchewan was also ▓▌
▓████▓▌ met with glowing reviews. ▓▌
