About the release:
Hot on the heels of his worldwide smash hit æKing of My CastleÆ
Wamdue Kid Chris Brann re-invents himself once again as Santal and
delivers æPast and Future ThingsÆ a sublime and pop savy afro house
fusion which probably wonÆt be climbing up the charts but is sure
to satify both tastemakers and denizens of the deep. The A-side
begins with his remix of æPast and Future Thingsö a warm, cascading
rhythmic journey with spiritual life flavored percussion, subtle
jungle noizes, spine tingling synths and gorgeous studdered vocals
compliments of talented new voice Terence Downs. On the æAnanda
MixÆ (2) Mr. Brann adds a relentless jazz funk break and orchestral
strings to the equation, providing the proper setting for TerenceÆs
beautiful and ethereal vocal stylings which give a respectful nod
to 80Æs pop icons Sting and Peter Gabriel. On the æOriginal MixÆ
(B1) Mr. Brann combines classic Chicago house ambience with
TerenceÆs otherworldy vocals to create a deep masterpiece that
sounds like the lost reel of an improptu recording session
involving Fingers Inc, 808 State and Peter Gabriel after they met
at the Hacienda in 1989. Chris changes up the vibe considerably on
the B2 cut DisconnectÆ leaving us with a dark, epic free jazz
oddessy where hauting, distorted electric guitars and mad
percussion collide with TerenceÆs sincere and soulful vocal
pleadings. Please baby, baby please! Beautiful organized chaos that
can only be described by imagining String and Sun Ra in the same
studio smoking lots of something! Another slice of soulful and
cerebral dancefloor sophistication from the mind of deep house
maestro Chris Brann.
comment:
This record takes me back to the Jurassic era in the middle of Pangia,
I'm floating down a tropical river on a palm tree leaf with a pound of
cron on my belly.
