Whether or not you're a regular listener to DJ Andy Kershaw's
programme on BBC Radio 3, you're in for a treat here. This is a
collection of "musical curios, rarities and downright oddities",
embracing several genres including Zulu maskanda, honky tonk and the
utterly bizarre.

This album is a sequel to Andy Kershaw's 1987 compilation "Great
Moments of Vinyl History" (produced only on vinyl and long since
deleted). Cynics might regard the seventeen-year interval between
that and the second volume as unseemly haste. To them, I would simply
ask how much longer could a 1981-vintage demo tape of Surfin Dave (a
Jan and Dean fan from Leeds) be kept in the can?

At your next dinner party, chuck Norah Jones in the bin and put this
on the CD player instead. Watch your friends' jaws drop as they hear
the penultimate track, a cover version of Bruce Springsteen's
'Dancing in the Dark' performed by Jim Eldon, a fiddler from
Bridlington - it sounds like John Shuttleworth on speed.

Yes, they don't make records like this any more.
