Eden's third release, and the final one featuring the original duo of Bowley and
Bourke, finds the group still exploring its goth/psych/world music sides with
elegant elan. If there's a certain Projekt-styled gloom about the record, one
can say that results more from the meeting of artistic minds rather than
specific requests on the label's part. Bowley's singing sometimes recalls strong
early-'80s Brit vocals more than anything else, α la Adrian Borland of the
Sound; set against the spooky moods of the music it makes for a fine contrast,
especially his often queasy, Cure/Echo-tinged electric guitar. Bourke's
percussive work isn't as unique as that of his obvious inspirations in Dead Can
Dance, but it's still very fine stuff, suiting and setting the songs' feelings
and pace very well. Opening number "Our Scent Rides the Breeze" makes for a
killer start; other strong highlights include the slow reflection of
"Melancholia" and the hammered dulcimer-led instrumental beauty of "Dreamwheel."
