² ° ÛÛÛ The Costa ptf typeface family began life in 1999 as a ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ corporate typeface for Costa Crociere, an Italian cruise ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ company who still use it for many of their communication ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ needs. The objective was to develop a typeface that allowed ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ all of the material to be easily recognisable despite ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ various stylesheets and layouts. The style of typeface came ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ from the ligatured logotype Costa designed by Landor ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ Associates in 1999. The immediate answer was to design ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ disconnected letters and to add some unusual glyphs such as ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ k, v or E in order to give a unique colour to the text. The ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ idea was to create a sort of mediterranean style of ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ typeface. Using the structure of a somewhat modernised ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ Italian Chancery script to which only the ending serif ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ remained. The serif being more of a flourish creating ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ contrast and referencing the more exotic countries such as ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ those which Costa Crociere present in their catalogs. Costa ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ ptf is a style without neutrality and doesnt fit ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ comfortably into any typeface classification this proves ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ to be the novelty of its design as well as guaranteeing its ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ originality. ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ Costa ptf was designed to be appropriate for any use where ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ you might desire to give an informal look in titling sizes ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ but still need good legibility in small text sizes. ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ In 2004, it was time to upgrade the family, originally ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ developed in Postcript Type 1 and TrueType format, into a ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ contemporary OpenType family. First we added ExtraBold and ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ Demi weights and then a large character set with close to ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ full Latin script support. Among various glyphs designed ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ (781 glyphs per weight) we have: Small Caps, 4 styles of ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ figures, many ligatures, ornaments, alternates, superiors & ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ fractions. All glyphs provided in each weight allowing for ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ consistant change from one weight to another. ÛÛÛ ° ²

² ° ÛÛÛ Originally not planned, it appeared because of a trip to ÛÛÛ ° ²

² ° ÛÛÛ variations of the Spanish Ch following ideas developed by ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ the Argentinian type designer Rubén Fontana for his ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ typeface called Fontana ND (published by the Barcelona ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ foundry Bauer). Then, during my lecture, I presented my ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ variations and asked to the audience which design fit the ÛÛÛ ° ²
² ° ÛÛÛ best their language, they selected the design you find in ÛÛÛ ° ²
