a domestic release for the collection of import remixes of the
harthouse label's founder's last album, the harlequin-the robot and
the ballet-dancer. the title referred to vath's autobiographical
concept of the three aspects of his personality, expressed on the
original cd in the musical modes of trance-techno, electro-funk and
neo-classical ambient. vath's renown as a dj and producer is that
he can deal with emotional concepts like that, and pull it off
within techno's rhythmic structures. and as the sections of
harlequin were released as singles the father of german trance
inspired the best remixes from his esteemed label mates and guests
underworld and speedy j. from hardfloor's patented acid-trance
remix of "robot" to the 18-minute "aural float mix" of "the birth
of robby" (by resistance d's pascal f.e.o.s. and others) these
mixes are pure "hart-trance" for the dance floor. while for the
chill-out room, stevie b-zet opens the disc with a majestic remix
of "harlequin's meditation," and closes it with an equally
introspective version of "ballet-dancer." b-zet works on dance
tracks with vath under the name astral pilot and they have a new ep
called needle damage, with remixes by rabbit in the moon and dj
hell. b-zet also has an ambitious solo project out now called when
i see which features lyrics by dada-ist poets hugo ball, tristan
tzara & richard hulsenbeck.
