│║ band from Switzerland formed in 2015. Their self ║ │
│║ titled debut album was recorded in 2016 and ║ │

│║ If youÆre looking for a hard hitting and punchy, ║ │
│║ NWOBHM influenced heavy metal album, then look ║ │
│║ no further than the debut release from Swiss ║ │
│║ band Burning Witches. Echoing everything great ║ │
│║ about the NWOBHM, the album explodes into life ║ │
│║ with the blistering æBlack WidowÆ. Blazing a ║ │
│║ fiery trail of duelling guitars and galloping ║ │
│║ rhythms, æBlack WidowÆ is a barn stormer of an ║ │
│║ album opener and sets the tone for what is to ║ │
│║ come. Assuming a much heavier rhythm, æBurning ║ │
│║ WitchesÆ (the song) is a bombastic blast that ║ │
│║ has hints of legendary British icons Judas ║ │
│║ Priest fizzing from every twang and thump. The ║ │
│║ all female outfit from Switzerland are on to an ║ │
│║ immediate winner, with NWOBHM fans the world ║ │
│║ over drooling at what is blaring out of the ║ │
│║ speakers. The opening double salvo is some of ║ │
│║ the best traditional heavy metal IÆve heard this ║ │
│║ year, with the album continuing apace with the ║ │
│║ thundering æBloody RoseÆ. A vigorous and very ║ │
│║ heavy foot stomp, æBloody RoseÆ is a riff heavy ║ │
│║ romp of aggressiveness. The classic sound of the ║ │
│║ eighties heavy metal scene is still very much ║ │
│║ alive and in very capable hands. Eleven songs ║ │
│║ across a breath taking forty five minutes is ║ │
│║ cracking value and worth every single minute of ║ │
│║ your listening time. ║ │

│║ An atmospheric and mellow stroll sets æThe Dark ║ │
│║ CompanionÆ on its way as it builds, crescendo ║ │
│║ like, to become a chugging hustle and bustle ║ │
│║ barrage. Head bangingly addictive, Burning ║ │
│║ Witches are delivering a cracking album of heavy ║ │
│║ metal, and one that is a must have addition to ║ │
│║ any NWOBHM fans collection. Catchy choruses ║ │
│║ accompany the infectious rhythms as song after ║ │
│║ song, the album just gets better and better. The ║ │
│║ sub three minute rampage æMetal DemonsÆ is all ║ │
│║ out NWOBHMàduelling guitars, galloping rhythms ║ │
│║ and a sing a long chant style chorus. Enter ║ │
│║ mellowness once again as soulful vocals breath ║ │
│║ life into the power ballad æSave MeÆ. A time to ║ │
│║ sway from side to side and hold your lighters ║ │
│║ high as æSave MeÆ swaggers on, becoming heavier ║ │
│║ and heavier as it progresses. æSave MeÆ allows ║ │
│║ the listener a short breather, as æCreatures Of ║ │
│║ The NightÆ explodes ferociously into life and ║ │
│║ takes on the mantle of speed metal as it ║ │
│║ thunders on at a blistering pace. A very catchy ║ │
│║ sing a long style chorus adds weight to the ║ │
│║ infectious rhythm and æCreatures Of The NightÆ ║ │
│║ becomes a stand out highlight on the album. ║ │

│║ The rather demonic and unsettling title æWe Eat ║ │
│║ Your ChildrenÆ is an anthemic and punchy mid ║ │
│║ tempo song, featuring the most powerful and ║ │
│║ menacing vocal performance heard on the album. ║ │
│║ Hard head nodding and violent foot stomping ║ │
│║ accompany æWe Eat Your ChildrenÆ as it strolls ║ │
│║ on to an end. The return of pace and power sets ║ │
│║ æCreator Of HellÆ on a heavy path of savage ║ │
│║ riffs and thunderous drums, all the while ║ │
│║ retaining a certain melodic edge, keeping it ║ │
│║ catchy and appealing to fans of both the metal ║ │
│║ and rock genres. Hurtling towards the albums ║ │
│║ conclusion, speed metal takes centre stage with ║ │
│║ the scorching pace of æThe DeathlistÆ. The ║ │
│║ quickest song on the album, æThe DeathlistÆ ║ │
│║ borders on the thrash metal genre, with the ║ │
│║ chorus break stepping into the melodic heavy ║ │
│║ metal genre. æThe DeathlistÆ is a cracking song ║ │
│║ and a second stand out highlight. Bringing the ║ │
│║ album to a close is a superb cover of the Judas ║ │
│║ Priest classic æJawbreakerÆ (from their 1984 ║ │
│║ album æDefenders Of The FaithÆ). Burning Witches ║ │
│║ have kept to the pace and power of the original ║ │
│║ and demonstrate their love for the NWOBHM scene ║ │
│║ by covering a song by one of the genres most ║ │
│║ influential pioneers. A great choice and an even ║ │
│║ greater end to a great album. ║ │
