Formed by Nelly Daltrey and Tuva Lodmark after meeting at school, Pale
Honey is a minimalist rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden. With encouragement
from their maths teacher, the young duo first began playing songs together
in their school music room, sometimes sneaking out of class to do so.
Having spent a few years playing together, Pale Honey released their debut
EP "Fiction" in 2014, which Q Magazine compared to riot grrrl greats like
PJ Harvey and Sleater-Kinney. Their self-titled debut album followed the
next year alongside critically acclaimed singles "Youth" and "Over Your
Head".
In late 2016, the duo released explosive single "Real Thing" followed in
March 2017 by synth-led track "Why Do I Always Feel This Way". Not a band
to be pigeonholed into any particular genre, Pale Honey also released a
cover of an Abba classic "Lay All Your Love On Me" this June. New single
"Get These Things Out Of My Head", with its moody black and white music
video, comes with the announcement that second album "Devotion" now is
being released.
Pale Honey are what would happen if Sleater-Kinney and The XX got together,
had a baby and raised it in a glorious musical townhouse in the cool Haga
district of Gothenburg (we canÆt confirm that this ISN'T what happened).
Most endearing about the duo is their elementary school beginnings and the
way that informs their music today. Their initial lack of technical
virtuosity meant that Daltrey and Lodmark developed a stripped back
approach to songwriting, which is still present in their minimalist musical
aesthetic, despite their growth as performers.
