The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. Based on the
songwriting partnership of Morrissey (vocals) and Johnny Marr (guitar), the band also
included Andy Rourke (bass) and Mike Joyce (drums). Critics have called them one of
the most important alternative rock bands to emerge from the British independent
music scene of the 1980s, and the group has had major influence on subsequent
artists. Morrissey's lovelorn tales of alienation found an audience amongst youth
culture bored by the ubiquitous synthesizer-pop bands of the early 1980s, while
Marr's complex melodies helped return guitar-based music to popularity.

Widely considered to be both The SmithsÆ finest work and one of the greatest albums
ever made, The Queen Is Dead has cast a significant influence over subsequent
generations since it was first released in the summer of 1986. Now Warner Bros.
Records can confirm details of a newly remastered and expanded version of the album
that will be released on October 20.

This reissue represents the first time that The SmithsÆ back catalog has been
revisited in such a way. It follows two recent limited edition vinyl singles sourced
from the archives: a demo mix of ôThe Boy With The Thorn In His Sideö which was
released for Record Store Day, and ôThe Queen Is Deadö which debuted at #1 on the
official vinyl chart in the U.K. when it was released in June.

The album features several of the bandÆs finest moments including the title track and
ôThere Is A Light That Never Goes Out,ö as well as the iconic singles ôThe Boy With
The Thorn In His Sideö and ôBigmouth Strikes Again.ö

THE QUEEN IS DEAD will be released on digital and streaming formats as well as the
following physical formats û all of which feature the 2017 master of the original
album:

Deluxe 3-CD/1-DVD Boxed Set û Featuring the 2017 master of the album; additional
