hailing from canada, jaffa is the moniker of david kakon, a
classically trained pianist and self-confessed organ freak.
apparently his collection includes such exalted machines as the
moog multimoog, roland alpha-juno2, waldorf pulse, hammond b3,
hohner clavinet and wurlitzer ep how many organs does a man need?
clearly the man's a touch obsessed.
that said, what a glorious obsession it is. as air have taught us,
there is something about a good moog workout that lifts the heart
and touches the soul. it's an instrument whose tones effortlessly
stretch from the warm and dreamy to the dramatic and funky.
certainly this album encompasses all of these mood states, swinging
between the upbeat-groovy and the sexy-smoochy. (jaffa himself has
described his sound as "fat albert meets emmanuelle on a beach in
tahiti", which kinda sums it up.)
check out Jaffa-Elevator-2000-JUST, definitely one of the best
albums of the last year.
