What do you get when you cross Stars with Broken Social Scene?
How about new Arts & Crafts signing The Most Serene Republic?
With lush soundscapes, layered harmonies and dreamy
atmospherics, TMSR's addition to the venerable A&C label is a
no-brainer. The group fall smack dab in the middle of Stars'
spacey, romantic pop and BSS' post-modern indie structures.
Originally released in 2004 by Sunday League Records,
Underwater Cinematographer didn't make so much as a ripple,
but with their new label's cred it's sure to skyrocket to
overhype heaven. While the band have some interesting vocal
interplay, especially on "Content Was Always My Favorite
Colour," it's missing Stars' memorable hooks, or BSS'
interesting arrangements. TMSR are just hitting adulthood,
though, so they have a few years to develop their sound and
when they do, the hype will be deserved.
