italo disco has become a kind of myth nowadays -- a mutant
electronic strain of disco music which seemed to spring up at the
beginning of the 1980's, 2 or 3 years after disco in north america
had reached its commercial peak. almost of all us in the
english-speaking world only know the names of certain producers
from the record jackets: stefano pulga, stefano secchi, mario
boncaldo, oderso rubini, mario flores, a. zanni, l. giombini,
claudio simonetti, m. violante, celso valli, maurizio dami....
these were the producers of records titled koto, jago, kasso,
gazebo, gary low, gaz nevada, tantra, and of course,
     alexander robotnick.

in recent years, this sound has been referenced by diverse labels
like clone and environ, reborn as electroclash, and also became
(at nights like the cock, in london) a lively and more
fashion-conscious alternative to mainstream gay club music. we all
fantasize about the dark-eyed boys and girls with spiky haircuts
     and pink and grey fiorucci t-shirts getting down to tinny synths;
we all instantly recognize the crisp, mechanical 80's drum machine
patterns, the overt, arpeggiated synths, and the strange,
nonsensical lyrics delivered in an italian accent.

but is this how disco music in italy really sounded?

maybe dj joele gives us an answer: his rare set is a good example
for the famous "cosmic sound", so check this out.
