If you wanna party, party hard. Copenhagen Style.
For years the buzz has been on in the capital of otherwise sweet and
idyllic Denmark. A host of talented DJs and producers have rampaged the
clubs and inflicted the vibe on all the dance-aholics and all the
beautiful women - making Copenhagen THE Nordic party city #1 and creating
loads of well produced and catchy tunes in the process.
Now, the vibe is spreading. Several of Denmarks top-DJs and producers are
hitting the clubs of Europe with a unique sound and high profile label
signings- and Mr. Kemi & Amox are definitely among those who hit the hardest.
They teamed up as the last millennium was coming to an end and already
have three blast records under their belts - the most acclaimed on
Lasergun and the two others on CopenhagenÆs own Mermaids in Space.
They kicked off 2004 with a memorable new yearÆs show at the Pfefferberg
club in Berlin, bookings in Germany, Switzerland and Greece have already
started to roll in. At least three new releases are on the way on Lasergun
and Mermaids In Space. New planned releases in 2004, making Mr.
Kemi and Amox two guys youÆll have trouble avoiding in the upcoming season.
Their story started out after a partyinduced night in 1998, where tech DJ
Mr Kemi (Kim Jensen) bumped into experimental musician and ad- and film-music
maker Amox (Oliver Nicklin) at a Copenhagen burger joint. Banter turned into
conversation turned into friendship - and both guys saw the opportunity
for a unique musical partnership. Until then, Oliver Nicklin had stepped
from an upbringing in an extremely musical family to ten years of
producing industrial, ambient and experimental jungle in his high-end studio.
And Kim Jensen had DJed techno and electro in clubs all over the capital,
but had a growing itch to produce his own style of music. It proved to
be a perfect match. When the programming mastermind Amox teamed up with
idea-bursting Mr. Kemi, the vibe started flowing - and the first result
was heard at a fashion festival in Copenhagen in 2000.
In 2001 they were asked to make a signature tune for a Japanese style
decadent club in central Copenhagen, and Lasergun owner Savas Pascalidis
was there to hear it. He signed them immediately - and in 2002 the killer
track Me So Horny pumped up dance floors all over Europe. Parallel to that,
Copenhagen party label Mermaids in Space has released two more vinyls with
the duo Robolove and Freak Fanatic - one in collaboration with another
Danish Lasergun hero, Lasse Lovelace. And Mr. Kemi has DJed in Geneva,
Zurich, Berlin and all the clubs in Copenhagen with names like Zombie
Nation, DJ Rok, Surgeon, Superpitcher, The Hacker, Silver Surfer and
Savas Pascalidis.
Today, our two heroesÆ productivity is higher than ever. A new release on
Lasergun is scheduled in the early summer - and in March, Mermaids in
Space will release a combo with Lasse Lovelace and Silversurfer, where
Mr. Kemi & Amox will contribute with a unique cover of the ultimate
Danish punk classic æCopenhagenÆ by the Sods. Also, the guys have teamed
up with renown Danish rap artist El Jokerino and top diva DJ Nicoline
laying down the vocals on a release scheduled this summer.
The music has evolved from electro to the smoothe Cologne style but the
vibe is the same: ItÆs a Copenhagen party. And if you wanna join
