Release Notes:
One of the first great things to come out of the merger of Sony & BMG -- an
excellent compilation that brings together key 70s grooves from the catalog of
both labels! The set has a depth that rivals some of the best Japanese funk
compilations of years past -- in that it features only tracks recorded for major
labels at the time, but goes out of its way to include super-hip tunes that go
way beyond the better-known hits and chart tracks. There's a great mix of
mellow, midtempo, and jazzy numbers on the set -- and many of these numbers are
great tunes that we haven't seen reissued on CDs for many years. Titles include
"Would You Believe In Me" by Jon Lucien, "I'm Always Dancin To The Music" by
Benny Golson, "We Getting Down" by Weldon Irvine, "Work It Out" by Breakwater,
"Cuz It's You Girl" by James Walsh Gypsy Band, "Second Chance" by Martha Reeves,
"Oops Here I Go" by Edna Wright, "Till You Take My Love" by Harvey Mason, "You
Make Me A Believer" by Lamont Dozier, and "Could Heaven Ever Be Like This" by
Idris Muhammad.
