│║ I am positive that it is not the first time, nor ║ │
│║ the last time unfortunately, that a band simply ║ │
│║ cannot put out material due to external or ║ │
│║ internal issues within the band. Working on ║ │
│║ material only to keep it away until the ║ │
│║ whenever, is quite saddening, especially if can ║ │
│║ do good for the band and its future progress. ║ │
│║ For the back in the action, veteran Spanish ║ │
│║ Death / Thrash Metal warmongers, CANKER, it took ║ │
│║ twelve years to unleash the recordings of what ║ │
│║ became their third album, "Earthquake", and ║ │
│║ finally releasing it properly. The local meat ║ │
│║ factory of Xtreem Music was there for them to ║ │
│║ revive an effort that wouldnÆt be forgotten or ║ │
│║ put aside to rot in a corner somewhere. The ║ │
│║ problems surrounding the unreleased of this ║ │
│║ album sooner are under a cloud of fog, however, ║ │
│║ at least it is out and it surely has a fiery ║ │
│║ spirit ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ To be honest, it crossed my mind for a minute, ║ │
│║ after listening to the single, and opening ║ │
│║ track, ôWhale Huntö, that this album is going to ║ │
│║ be yet another grave smashing Death Metal ║ │
│║ combustion. Not that the newly found underground ║ │
│║ gruesomeness isnÆt invigorating, as it has its ║ │
│║ moments, yet, "Earthquake" really shook things ║ │
│║ up for the better, delivering an iron fist ║ │
│║ through my jaw right after the opening ║ │
│║ onslaught. With barely assimilating segments of ║ │
│║ the modern fusion within the genre, which is ║ │
│║ quite common nowadays, the passionate Spanish ║ │
│║ horde proved their point rather quickly, ║ │
│║ entrusting their souls to the old school reign. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Like shot through the max of a cannon, CANKER ║ │
│║ rapidly set their presence, devouring everything ║ │
│║ in their path similar to the early 90s of the ║ │
│║ Dutch Death Metal scene, with SINISTER / ASPHYX ║ │
│║ / HOWITZER sliding through the top of my mind. ║ │
│║ Such immense energies, bone breaking riffs of ║ │
│║ both European driven Death Metal and US Bay Area ║ │
│║ Thrash Metal, somewhere in the range of EXODUS, ║ │
│║ and a piece of destructive rhythm section, are ║ │
│║ the true Earthquake my dear Metal fans. ║ │
│║ Occasionally, under the guttural blood spews of ║ │
│║ his frontman and the bashing of his skinman, ║ │
│║ Miguel Hernßndez would celebrate the undying ║ │
│║ energy with an ample good soloing, right before ║ │
│║ heading back to the ferocity with his peer. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ôLeyla Islandö is the bandÆs top of the line, ║ │
│║ hinting of the early downfall of SEPULTURA, yet ║ │
│║ at least putting it into good use and for the ║ │
│║ bandÆs advantage, along with undeniable Thrash ║ │
│║ Metal brutality. CANKER undoubtable made one of ║ │
│║ the interesting old school Death Metal songs to ║ │
│║ date with this pretty face. ôEarthquakeö and ║ │
│║ ôBlack Starö affirmed that this is a one hell of ║ │
│║ a heavy album, blistering with meaty riffs, ║ │
│║ crossing neatly between the extreme force to ║ │
│║ classic titans of the late 80s. Also warmly ║ │
│║ recommended: ôBiosfearö, ôBedoutö and ôThe ║ │
│║ Ghosts of Pastö. ║ │

│║ It wasnÆt expected, I had my train thought to ║ │
│║ elsewhere right until I was hit by this major ║ │
│║ ton of bricks of an album. Without much ║ │
│║ complexity, CANKER released an honest album, a ║ │
│║ special reserve for a comeback. ║ │
│║ ║ │

│║ ║ │
│║ BIOGRAFIA: Canker nace en Octubre del a±o 1990 ║ │
│║ fruto de la uni≤n entre componentes de las ║ │
│║ bandas granadinas Apocalipsis y Death Noise. En ║ │
│║ esos momentos la formaci≤n de la banda la ║ │
│║ componen: Miguel Robles a la baterφa, Paco ║ │
│║ Clemot a la guitarra, Juan miguel (Indio) al ║ │
│║ bajo y Miguel Hernßndez a la guitarra y la voz. ║ │
│║ La primera actuaci≤n de Canker tuvo lugar en ║ │
│║ C·llar, una poblaci≤n cercana a Granada, en la ║ │
│║ discoteca Europa. Hubo mucha expectaci≤n y el ║ │
│║ lleno fue total en una noche redonda en la que ║ │
│║ la banda demostr≤ su poderφo en directo. Las ║ │
│║ ganancias de este concierto sirvieron para que ║ │
│║ Canker se metieran en el estudio de los hermanos ║ │
│║ Sßnchez, en Peligros, para grabar su primera ║ │
│║ maqueta, titulada como el mismo nombre del ║ │
│║ grupo. Esta primera grabaci≤n incluφa cinco ║ │
│║ temas demoledores y brutales: Opusdeath, Evil ║ │
│║ Attack, Hardcore, Torture y Physical. Varios de ║ │
│║ estos temas se incluirφan en los siguientes ║ │
│║ trabajos de la banda. La maqueta se edit≤ a ║ │
│║ principios del a±o 91, llegßndose a vender cerca ║ │
│║ de las 2000 copias y todo gracias a la labor y ║ │
│║ el tes≤n de Juan Uribe, amigo y mentor de la ║ │
│║ banda en esos momentos. A continuaci≤n Paco ║ │
│║ Clemot (guitarra) abandona la banda e incorporan ║ │
│║ a un antiguo componente: Ram≤n Astorga. Mas ║ │
│║ tarde Canker actuarφa en un concierto benΘfico ║ │
│║ para ayudar a las victimas del sida, en el cual ║ │
│║ conocieron a Javier Gonzßlez de munster touring, ║ │
│║ que se ofreci≤ para hacer las veces de manager ║ │
│║ en el grupo. A partir de ahφ vinieron varias ║ │
│║ actuaciones. Entre otras las de Churriana junto ║ │
│║ a Devil Dogs, o en el mismo lugar, con Andir≤n. ║ │
│║ En marzo de 1992 Canker participan en el Villa ║ │
│║ de Bilbao consiguiendo el primer puesto. Como ║ │
│║ consecuencia, vuelven a Bilbao para actuar junto ║ │
│║ a Su Ta Gar y The Gun en el palacio de deportes ║ │
│║ La Casilla y la compa±φa Romiral D ofrece un ║ │
│║ contrato discogrßfico a la banda. Con parte del ║ │
│║ accΘsit que recibe Canker de cuenta de la ║ │
│║ organizaci≤n del Villa de Bilbao, se pudo contar ║ │
│║ con la colaboraci≤n en las tareas de producci≤n ║ │
│║ de Colin Richardson: (Bolth Thrower, Napalm ║ │
│║ Death, Fear Factory, etc.). En junio del 93 ║ │
│║ Canker entran en el estudio para grabar lo que ║ │
│║ serφa su primer CD, "Physical". Durante dos ║ │
│║ semanas y con un horario mßs que apretado, se ║ │
│║ pudieron grabar los 10 cortes de los que consta ║ │
│║ el ßlbum. Las mezclas se tuvieron que hacer en ║ │
│║ los estudios Sun Light de Estocolmo (Suecia), a ║ │
│║ manos del productor Thomas Scorberg. En ║ │
│║ Septiembre de ese mismo a±o, "Physical" ve la ║ │
│║ luz con una respuesta del p·blico muy buena. En ║ │
│║ los dos primeros meses se vendieron 2000 copias ║ │
│║ y a los 6 meses iban las 6000. En los meses ║ │
│║ posteriores Canker actuarφan en varios ║ │
│║ festivales, como el Espßrrago junto a Toy Dolls, ║ │
│║ La Polla Records y Legi≤n, y conciertos por ║ │
│║ cuenta propia. En marzo del 94 realizarφan una ║ │
│║ gira con Su Ta Gar, que comprendφan ciudades ║ │
│║ tanto de Andalucφa, como del Paφs Vasco tambiΘn. ║ │
│║ Incluyendo una en el sur de Francia, ║ │
│║ concretamente en Arruta, cerca de Ly≤n. Esta es ║ │
│║ la ·nica vez que Canker cruzan nuestras ║ │
│║ fronteras, hasta el momento. Una de las ║ │
│║ actuaciones mas importantes en Madrid fue junto ║ │
│║ a Hamlet en la sala Canciller con un lleno total ║ │
│║ y en el que la aceptaci≤n del p·blico fue ║ │
│║ excelente. Aquφ se produce el segundo cambio en ║ │
│║ la banda. Se marcha Miguel Robles (baterφa) y ║ │
│║ entra Eduardo Cervera, que es amigo de los ║ │
│║ componentes y ha participado en otras ║ │
│║ formaciones. DespuΘs de numerosas actuaciones ║ │
│║ durante este a±o, en el 95 vuelven a actuar en ║ │
│║ el Espßrrago y en otros eventos y festivales. ║ │
│║ Hay que destacar la actuaci≤n en la que formaron ║ │
│║ parte teloneando a Death tambiΘn en la sala ║ │
│║ Canciller. Sin duda fue uno de los mejores ║ │
│║ conciertos de Canker hasta el momento. Mientras ║ │
│║ tanto las relaciones entre el manager y la banda ║ │
│║ se van alejando hasta convertirse en una ruptura ║ │
│║ definitiva. Es entonces cuando comienzan los ║ │
│║ verdaderos problemas en Canker. Conocen a un ║ │
│║ individuo de una productora de Granada con el ║ │
│║ que grabarφan su segundo y casi desconocido CD: ║ │
│║ "Exquisites Tenderness". La grabaci≤n del ßlbum ║ │
│║ se llev≤ a cabo en los estudios Producciones ║ │
│║ Peligrosas, situado en la localidad de Peligros ║ │
│║ y dur≤ mes y medio. La producci≤n corri≤ a cargo ║ │
│║ de JosΘ Sßnchez, asφ como la mezcla y la ║ │
│║ masterizaci≤n. El sonido que se consigui≤ junto ║ │
│║ a la calidad tΘcnica y compositiva de los temas ║ │
│║ hace de este segundo CD una obra brutal y llena ║ │
│║ de variedad en ritmos y estilos. Por desgracia ║ │
│║ el sujeto que llevaba los asuntos de Canker en ║ │
│║ realidad no hacφa nada. Tan s≤lo se distribuy≤ ║ │
│║ el disco en tiendas Tipo y en las ya ║ │
│║ desaparecidas de Donosti Rock. Del primer tema ║ │
│║ de este CD "Carrion", se hizo un video clip, el ║ │
│║ cual tuvo una presentaci≤n y tan solo una ║ │
│║ emisi≤n en un programa del Canal Sur. La ║ │
│║ promoci≤n en general del ßlbum fue prßcticamente ║ │
│║ nula y el trabajo de este individuo inexistente. ║ │
│║ Desde ese momento las actuaciones de Canker ║ │
│║ fueron contadas. ┌nicamente destacar las de Vigo ║ │
│║ junto a Kreator, Dimmu Borgir y Krisium, la del ║ │
│║ Doctor Music, en los pirineos y la del festival ║ │
│║ Barbarian Rock en Jerez. Estas ·ltimas fueron ║ │
│║ grandes actuaciones de Canker en las que ║ │
│║ demostraron quienes son. A partir de ahφ surgi≤ ║ │
│║ la desilusi≤n entre los componentes de la banda, ║ │
│║ los cuales tomaron caminos diferentes. Eduardo ║ │
│║ (baterφa) se marcha con una orquesta, Juan ║ │
│║ Miguel (bajo) no se une a ninguna banda. Ram≤n ║ │
│║ (guitarra) entra en un grupo de rock y Miguel ║ │
│║ Hernßndez entra como teclista de la banda ║ │
│║ granadina Azrael. DespuΘs de un tiempo Miguel ║ │
│║ Hernßndez intenta recuperar la banda ║ │
│║ incorporando a Antonio Le≤n al bajo. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ y dando conciertos en diferentes lugares, ║ │
│║ "Granada,Almerφa,Sevilla,Murcia,Villareal,Mßlaga ║ │
│║ ...ect. Al paso de los a±os la banda se toma un ║ │
│║ descanso y actualmente CANKER vuelve con una ║ │
│║ nueva formaci≤n: ║ │

│║ Trespe ha estado 2 a±os con la banda, pero por ║ │
