:: Release Notes:
::
:: Some fairly nice and sunny indie pop comes to us courtesy of
:: Ken Michaels. I seem to hear a lot of Fountains of Wayne in
:: here albeit mixed with a nice lo-fi sensibility. The feeling
:: is concentrated by use of keyboard sounds.
::
:: On the chugging title track, "Sit In The Sun", I'll be durned
:: if Michaels doesn't sound dead on like Ira Kaplan. A funny
:: note, I seem to recognize some of the keyboard sounds, in
:: particular an organ sound from "All Around Us", as some of
:: the factory presets for Propellerhead's Reason. Well, at
:: least that's what it sounded like to me. Not that there's
:: anything wrong with it, if this is true; I've just become
:: sensitive to it because I've used many of those sounds off
:: Reason as well for the simple fact that they are really good.
:: Long live budget keyboard sounds...
::
:: Anyhow, what matters is the songs which are quirky but nicely
:: written. They are the tiniest bit sappy but not
:: overpoweringly so. The sunny "Everywhere I Go" contains a
:: jokey little drunken keyboard line that I liked. "Don't Leave
:: Me" is a pleasant sort of light country waltz number with
:: funny percussion and nice harmonies. I think this was my
:: favorite song on the EP, which is available from Zomo Music.
:: Interestingly, there are 4 additional electronic "sound
:: pastiches" tacked onto the end of the disc which is where I
:: guess the Stephen Merritt comparisons come from...
