This release combines 2004's "Metro Area 5" and 2006's "Metro Area 6." The
two releases provide a snapshot of the the duo's post-album quest for new
directions while retaining the emotional spirit of their early releases.
"Nerves" is a suspenseful, driving piece with an irresistible groove soaked
in Latin percussion and fierce drums. Angular synthetic textures trade off
aggressively, finally arriving at a gorgeous and melancholic crescendo
awash in piano, strings and horns. "Proton Candy" is just as much of a
floor mover with its super-tight electric bassline, but is more playful in
its approach, conjuring up dreams of teenage roller rinks crossbred with
hardcore disco and bubblegum R&B and has proven to be a sleeper hit among
Metro Area fans.
"Honey Circuit" is a strange beast, chock full of ear-candy details and
suspenseful arrangements, with a rhythm section to slam the dance floor and
unconventional vocal lines sung by Wanda Felicia. "Rhythm Reel #6" was
originally created as a DJ mix tool yet can stand on its own, hearkening
back to the pioneering rhythm track records that Metro Area liberally
employ in their DJ sets. Finally, "Things Fall" is a mid-tempo cosmic jam
of melodic twists and a chugging, hypnotic groove. Its jacking rhythm,
Detroit-meets-R&B chords and a horn section led by Graeme Blevins all add
up to a track that combines raw floor function with headphone listening
bliss.
