       As a founding member of The Velvet Underground, John
       Cale has found a proper second wind composing
       original soundtracks for cinema, most notably (in my
       opinion) his much underrated work for American
       Psycho. Here he is paired up with avant film maker CS
       Leigh (he must be hardcore cos he uses initials)
       whose film 'Process' has been attracting much
       broadsheet praise since its premiere at Berlinale
       earlier this year. "So why do I want an art-house
       soundtrack that has been described as 'an assault on
       the viewer's sensibilities'?" I hear you ask, and
       fair enough I suppose if past experience has left you
       a little wary. But whereas these albums are often a
       stew of introspective wank, John Cale has made sure
       the listener is well looked after with a slew of
       deeply textured compositions that rarely stray beyond
       the piano for inspiration. With shades of his 'Dream
       Interpretation' series hazing in throughout,
       'Process' is at turns bucolic, timid and deeply
       emotional and proves that Cale can take frequent
       artistic U-turns without ever losing the listener.
       Beautiful stuff.
