│ Classic EP from the long-running influential │
│ German trance label, NOOM Records. It was │
│ founded in 1993 by Joachim Keil as part of │
│ the Undercover Music Group (aka UCMG), │
│ alongside other notable German labels such as │
│ Phuture Wax, Plastic City, Global Ambition, │
│ and Time Unlimited. Many of the releases │
│ were either composed, remixed, or produced by │
│ the in-house engineer Commander Tom. The │
│ label went on to issue over 70 singles and │
│ nearly 20 albums in its lifespan, before the │
│ bankruptcy of UCMG forced it to shut down. │
│ Will it ever be resurrected someday? Only │
│ time will tell... │
│ │
│ This particular release is the CD-single of │
│ the 10th release on the label, Mandala's │
│ amazing "Australia EP". The tag-team of │
│ Commander Tom and Ray BoyΘ joined forces for │
│ their second of three high-profile releases │
│ on the label, and this one is undoubtedly │
│ their best. All four tracks are outstanding │
│ acidic trance TB-303 workouts, the likes of │
│ which you just don't see these days. │
│ "Astralia" kicks things off, with digeridoos, │
│ chanting, and one hell of a synth riff. │
│ "Acidney" is up next, which makes the most of │
│ those 303s and a reversed vocal exaltation. │
│ "Meltburn" rounds out the original tracks, a │
│ deep and moody burbling trance piece. It's │
│ all rounded out with "Astralia (Remix)", │
│ which takes the original mix and pushes it │
│ even further into anthemic territory with a │
│ huge piano line and synth-pad opener before │
│ ripping into the familiar lead. │
│ │
│ PLEASE NOTE: │
│ While NBD did a rip of this EP many moons │
│ ago, it was only of the 3-track vinyl EP. │
│ As is common with many of the CD-single │
│ versions of the NOOM releases, this disc │
│ contains a bonus track that does not appear │
│ on the vinyl release. Track #4, "Astralia │
│ (Remix)", is exclusive to this release. │
│ However, if you absolutely must have it on │
│ vinyl, search out the Spanish licensed │
│ pressing on Blanco Y Negro, or the UK │
│ repressing on Colourbox where it is labelled │
│ as "Astralia '97". │
