Release Notes:
Dog Men Poets can only be described by one word: Punk-Hop
Funk-hop: An eclectic dose of funk, hip-hop, and rock. Their style
dishes out high-energy poetic calisthenics and laid back poetics
in a lyric conscious blend of music and poetry.
The Dog Men Poets mix their own style of funk-hop with high-energy
performances that have rapidly "established them as one of the
hottest new live acts throughout the South." (Jason Gossard, San
Antonio Current)
The natural chemistry of Brouillet and Matt Barker, works crowds
into a frenzy as they alternate between smooth laid-back lyrics
and poetic hip-hop calisthenics. Together with the under lying
funk of G-Smiles, OBN, and Ras, The Dog Men Poets have formed a
breed of music that "will turn your head and definitely grab your
attention." (Toni Torres, Edge Magazine)
Mixing a variety of musical elements ranging from funk, hip-hop,
poetry, and rock, the DMP form their own sound and bring their fun
/ politically-lined message along the way.
MyTexasMusic.com describes the 19 track album this way "One of the
Best Buys of the year...non-stop action."
The essential makeup of DMP is as follows:
Matt Barker, born and raised in Scotland brings his quirky
acoustic style to the mix reminiscent of Beck. He's made solo
performances across the globe, including Japan, Southeast Asia,
India and Europe.
Brouillet: An original member of San Antonio's rookie Poetry Slam
Team, ranked second nationally, has incited and excited crowds in
the thousands at political marches across the United States.
G-Smiley: Has toured Europe laying funk grooves for over a decade.
He's also played beside such legneds as Stevie-Ray Vaughan and
Snoop Dogg.
Ras Christopher: Drummed his way onto movie sound tracks and
toured with international recording artist Buffalo Soldier before
joining the Dog Men Poets.
OBN: A multi-instrumentalist with deep roots in the poetry
community. His percussion skills, beat-box and words have been
spotlighted from D.C. to the Dirty South.
