here it is, after delays due to manufacturing
problems, the new Jose Gonzales Junip project is
underway, proudly brought to you by your friends at
UKi, enjoy..
blurb:
So now it's finally here, the awaited and spankingly
new 10" from JosΘ Gonzßlez' new band JUNIP. For those
of you coming in late, JosΘ Gonzßlez is a highly
acclaimed singer/songwriter of Argentinian breed, but
raised and based in the westcoastmetropolis of
Gothenburg. His internationally acclaimed debut
album, "Veneer", has gone Gold many times over, and
is a striking collection of hushed and autumnal indie
pop bedroom songs that sits elegantly on the hi-fi
end of the lo-fi spectrum.
As is the case with Gonzßlez distinctive solo
songwriting, the trio Junip could be said to belong
to "the quiet is the new loud" school, similar in
vein to fine folks like Elliott Smith, Kings of
Convenience and Hayden, but more lo-fi brushes than
"Veneer". The intimacy is all present, and it feels
so close, like Junip sits in the very same room as
you do, singing, with mellow vocals reminiscent of
Mark Kozelek in Red House Painters, accompanied by
gently plucked and strummed acoustic guitars.
"Black Refuge" is the first 5-tracked EP acting
taster to Junip's forthcoming album, ready to pierce
your heart with it's immediate genuine honesty and
intimate folky pop. It's a wind! Taking you through
the Swedish woods, with scents of bark, sensitive
guitars, pouring rain, the amazing vocals of
Gonzßlez, hypnotic Moog atmospheres by Tobias
Winterkorn that sucks you in, and Elias Araya's
careful drums that takes us home. Junip is a unique
band, with depth and pop songs that will stick to
your ears forever.
