█ Hi folks. Back in 2017 there were released 3 █
█ editions of this album. This one is Russian █
            █ remaster from Dec 2017. █
            █ █
            █ --- █
            █ █
            █ Mission Executed is a decent European speed/thrash █
█ metal album with ample mediocre segments █
█ interspersed with some great moments including █
█ solid guitar solos and some quality lyrics. █
█ ThereÆs plenty of variety in the guitar riffs, and █
█ gang vocals galore with attitude, so thatÆs a good █
█ start for any headbanging thrasher, yet its mix is █
█ somewhat lackluster, not really æjumping outÆ at █
█ the listener. The main problem with the record is █
█ certainly not the music, but the somewhat poor job █
█ on mastering; which Van Aerde himself was █
█ apparently never too happy with. Either way you █
█ get some pretty good Eurothrash moments, and tones █
            █ of headbangable patches. █
█ I particularly enjoy the subject matter of the █
█ track æMission to the AndesÆ as well as the █
█ enjoyable æby the bookÆ build up of thrash metal █
█ guitars in the opening intro. This oneÆs got a █
█ chanty gang-heavy chorus in that west coast US █
█ thrash metal vein, after lyrics fitting into the █
█ æepicÆ category about what I think are Native █
█ Americans and some type of mountain worship û █
█ enjoyable. Particularly memorable on this one is █
█ the great scaley riff finish, which marks a █
█ departure from your sudden finishes or fade outs. █
█ Some pretty solid guitars from Van Aerde. █
█ Another chanty number is æThe GatheringÆ, a █
█ typically European thrash affair with some dark █
█ imagery and pretty imaginative guitar work. This █
█ oneÆs quite memorable due to wide range of █
█ different riffs used and a very dark, evil █
█ chanting of backup vocals, while also being a bit █
█ of an epic. It also has some odd vocal bits which █
█ are pretty æwobblyÆ but are somewhat redeemed by █
█ some energetic riffs. It doesnÆt quite have the █
█ same effect of the opener æHordes of InsanityÆ █
█ which has a great blending of pace, production, █
█ and a very Kreator sounding overall approach. █
█ There are even significant amounts of Slayer (US) █
█ coming through in this one, and what I think (form █
█ what I can hear) an obligatory æthrashÆ lyric █
█ reference û classic. I never cared too much for █
█ the Slayer brand of thrash however, so this isnÆt █
█ really a positive note for me, but sometimes the █
█ guitars also remind me of Flotsam. █
█ Overall decent, but kind of lacking in imagination █
█ or originality it seems, some of the time. Not █
█ what IÆd call a æclassic thrash albumÆ but thereÆs █
█ definitely some sharp moments and real thrash █
█ metal attitude coming through in places. Tracks █
█ like æNuclear WasteÆ are enjoyable, but the main █
█ problem û the mastering seems to almost make █
█ æfillerÆ out of them in that its flat, depressive █
█ nature prevents a lot of the music from jumping █
█ out. You get a mix of some cool riffage and some █
█ more standard thrash riffs, with a couple of cool █
█ ones in æWarriors of the Holy OneÆ û sounding in █
█ that typical John Carpenter-esque vein at times. █
█ This song is badass and reminds me hard of █
            █ Overkill. █
█ The drums in this album seem to be mixed down █
█ which doesnÆt help give the album a ædynamicÆ █
█ sound. Now that I think about it; the bass is not █
█ too audible either, which lessens the impact and █
█ IÆm sure has something to do with my disdain at █
█ the album. The only thing that seems to drag the █
█ album out of its often drudgery-laden sound are █
█ some energetic and pacey guitar leads. The drums █
█ should really be kicking you in the skull, but are █
█ somewhat held back by the shitty mastering. The █
█ attempts at mimicking the Slayer sound may be a █
█ plus for some people, but are lost somewhat on me █
█ û though IÆm not sure if youÆd agree with me █
█ there.. The album was released on Mekong Delta █
█ member Ralph HubertÆs label, and while I think he █
█ produced some of their other efforts, his input █
█ may have helped on this one (Lord knows the Mekong █
█ Delta material has pretty strong production). Its █
█ mastering is almost demo-quality and is very █
            █ one-dimensional û just preventing you a bit from █
█ being really captivated. According to Van Aerde, █
█ Both this album, and the sophomore effort have █
█ been remastered, and will be repackaged for sale █
█ soon. I gotta tell ya, the new versions of the █
█ songs are ten times better and kick total ass! █
█ Much stronger, heavier and clearer. I would █
█ certainly advise checking out the remastered █
█ version, while this one perhaps loses points on █
            █ production. █
